The Fairy Faith in Ireland: History, Tradition, and Modern Pagan Practice (Celtic Pagan Practice)

Lora O'Brien
4.34/5 (45 ratings)
Do we believe in Fairies? Really? The Fairy Faith in Ireland has a long history, from the time of the mythology of the Tuatha Dé Danann through the folklore that arose with the coming of Christianity, and many of those traditions continue still to this day. These beliefs and practices have been studied by many scholars, antiquarians, and folklorists, and subsequently been picked up and popularised by Neo Pagan authors. We hear often now of Irish Fairies or the Sidhe being used or incorporated into New Age 'Celtic Fairy Witchcraft' systems or beliefs. Unfortunately, the majority of those who have been researching and writing about the Fairy Faith in Ireland for centuries, and those who have been attempting to practice the faith in a modern context, have been outside the culture. This has led to much misunderstanding and misappropriation of the ways we have always dealt with the Fairies in Ireland. In this book you will learn the truth about the folklore and Mythology of Fairies, as we believe it in Ireland. Through these pages you will discover... 'The Fairy Faith in History, Tradition, and Modern Pagan Practice' is written from the perspective of a native Irish Draoí (Druid and Priestess of the Old Gods), who has been raised in Ireland immersed in the mythology, folklore, and practical experiences in which our culture is so rich. The author went on to study, teach and write on these topics from 1994 to present day, having her first book published in 2004. She developed a professional career in Irish Heritage tourism and management, having the honour of guiding people through an authentic connection experience for many decades. She co-founded Pagan Life Rites Ireland to support legitimate and legal practice of our native spiritual beliefs, and the Irish Pagan School to provide a platform for a community of Irish voices to teach and share the collective wisdom of our people. This is the 8th book Lora O'Brien has written/edited, and she is currently a candidate for a Masters Degree in Irish Regional History (2023). Do we believe in Fairies? Yes we really do.
