Short story "The Mysteries of the Joy Rio" was written in 1941, first published in 1954. In 1953. Tennessee Williams wrote a similar story: "Hard Candy", set in the same cinema. Both stories are included in his second collection of short stories: "Hard Candy: A Book of Stories" which was first published in 1954 by New Directions.
