Kim Seungok
3.96/5 (65 ratings)
The literary critic Yoo Jong-ho called his work "a revolution of sensitivity" and "he has put new faith in our mother tongue into new vigor and possibility." Kim Seung - ok s works, which caused a new wave in Korean literature in the 1960 s, showed an extraordinary sensitivity based on superb style combined with tempered emotions and intellects and inspired young artists to the present. This is a collection of eight representative short stories of Seung-ok Kim, including [Minshin], [Seoul, 1964 Winter], [Life Practice], [Gun] and [Goat is strong]. Kim Seung-oks short stories contain the everyday, agony, and joys of those who lived in the 1960s, and portrayed the lingering anxieties, loss, and deviance of the lonely urban people with beautifully restrained sentences.

In the 1960s, industrialization was rapidly progressing. Kim Seung-ok portrayed the lives and people of the city fragmented and anonymized in most works such as [Moojin Travel] and [Seoul, Winter 1964]. The sadness of modern people who are alienated in a big city, the lonely life and the ritual of consciousness are the big stem that penetrates the novels of Kim Seung - ok. [Moojin Travel] is a work that is praised as the best short novel in Korean literature and based on the fictional city Moojin, it depicts the inner conflict of the main character in a delicate and elegant handwriting. The socially successful main character recovers his lost self in his mistress and is enthralled by his enthusiasm for his subjective life, but he finally succumbs to reality and promises to live only within the limited responsibilities given to him. It goes back to everyday and uniform life. And although the figure is based on the 1960s, it is also a self-portrait of us living in modern times.
