Grave Sacrifice (Grave Digger Mythos, #6)

John P. Logsdon
4.66/5 (119 ratings)
Perses has the high ground. My team has been divided. It's time to end this.
As I trudged up the road toward Vatican City, I knew I'd had no choice but to split the team up. It was the only way. I'm wasn't even slightly happy about it, but what other choice did I have? My wager with Dirgs made it clear we had to win or everything was going to fall into a vat of shit--metaphorically speaking...I think.

Perses and his crew of gods had started the process of loading up ancient power stations to give them a magical source that could rival the flow from godland. Taking down each station one by one was going be a bitch, too. According to what little information I had, we'd have to drop more than 50% of those sites or Perses would attain the required power he'd need to flip on the big generator. The lesser gods would be able to repair any damage we caused to a single site before we could complete our attack on the next one in line.

Bottom there was no way we'd be able to keep up pace.

So, yeah, I had to split the team.

That decision had left me alone, just like I'd been for thousands of years. Up until Perses started his rampage, that was all I knew and so I was content. Ever since the crew was formed, though, I'd learned the value of companionship--of family. Yes, that even included Marj, no matter how big of a pain in the ass she was.

It sucked, but it was the only way I could see to get through this mess.

Sending Mitzy off with Ama so they could work together to take out Avalon was the toughest part of my decision. I took some solace in the fact that she was tough and she worked great with Ama. In other words, it was the right call on my part.

Damn if I don’t miss having her by my side, though…
